On Thursday, May 20 Rotaract returned to Huiling for it’s 4th edition of ‘Around the World’, this time introducing the colorful country of Mexico in honor of Cinco de Mayo. Nine Rotaract volunteers and over 30 Huiling trainees and staff celebrated the vibrancy of Mexican culture through music, art and food activities.
Huiling aims to teach life and creative skills to its trainees through cooking, art and music classes. Rotaract adds to these activities an international perspective, aiming to teach trainees how to use different media for their art, new cooking techniques, and international dance and rhythms.
For ATW: Mexico, trainees sang and danced to the beats of traditional Mariachi music, learned to make homemade salsa, and decorated their own pinatas. Trainees especially enjoyed taking turns swinging blindfolded at a final, candy-filled pinata in the center’s courtyard. Fun was most certainly had by all–and more pinatas were requested for the future!
