Speaker Event – Peter Humphrey “Fighting Fraud in China Business Operations”, Mon 12 Dec.
Former Rotary President Peter Humphrey graduated in Chinese Studies from Durham University School of Oriental Studies and has spent his entire career closely involved with China and Eastern Europe, first in journalism and then for the past 13 years in corporate detective work. He is the founder of ChinaWhys, a risk management consultancy specialising in anti-fraud services. Before entering the risk consulting business Peter had a long career as a foreign correspondent with Reuters. He later headed China investigations for Kroll and PwC before establishing ChinaWhys in 2003. He is the Founding President of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners Mainland China Chapter. He also served as President of the Rotary Club of Beijing for Rotary year 2010-2011.
Peter will discuss operational risks associated with fraud, unethical practices and corrupt employees or business partners, and the drivers of fraud in China. He will also highlight elements of the supply chain shift into China that heighten these risks, will identify key vulnerabilities and threats, and will present cases of what went wrong for leading multinationals in a variety of fraud cases in China. And he will finally outline some of the basic tools for mitigating such risks both through preventive measures (such as background screening, business intelligence and due diligence) or through reactive measures, i.e. troubleshooting investigations and crisis management.
